In 2026 the Batumi authorities began demolishing some of the cafes, bars and clubs along the seafront Old Boulevard — as their leases expire. The aim is to clear and redevelop the coastal strip of the seafront.

For visitors to the city, this means that some of the familiar venues on the Old Boulevard have closed or relocated, and work is under way along the shore. The seafront itself — Batumi Boulevard, with its palm trees, cycle paths and dancing fountains — remains the city’s main promenade and is still open.

If you’re planning a trip, don’t rely on old lists of bars and cafes by the Old Boulevard: check what’s open once you’re there. For what to see in the city and how the seafront works, see the Batumi city guide; for other ideas for time by the sea, see the entertainment section.
